TryavnaTryavna (11,277 residents) is situated in the northern folds of Balkan Mountains, at an attitude 440 m above sea level. The climate is suitable for treatment of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
The town lies halfway the Sofia-Varna road (250 km).
The railway line linking North to South Bulgaria runs through it. Daily busses and trains connect Tryavna with Sofia and Gabrovo.
The town offers good facilities for recreation and sports all year round. It is a starting point of numerous hiking routes in the mountain.
Tryavna - the town of master wood-carvers and icon-painters still keeps the spirit of the 18th and 19th century. Unique are the architectural ensembles the central square with the Clock Tower, built in 1814, the authentic Revival houses, the clean cobbled streets, the arched stone Kivgiren Bridge, the churches and the open crafts workshops, in which today’s masters show their wonder works.
The museum of Tryavna Icon - Painting School, the carved ceilings of Daskalov House-Museum of woodcarving, the beautiful architecture of Shkoloto (the School), Kalinchev, Slaveikov and Angel Kunchev Museum - Houses, all tell the story of the genius of Renaissance artists, who have created the unique style in wood-carving, icon-painting and architecture.
Tryavna Art School was among the leading ones in Bulgaria. It is also the only one that has been preserved and developed till present days.

Popangelov House The oldest arhitectural monument, preserved from the beginning of XVIII century. ![]() The Clock Tower and Old Bridge ("kivgireniyat" bridge, maid by stones) The Clock Tower was built in 1814 and the clock in 1815, still functioning. ![]() Assumption of the Virgin Church A national monument. It was built by Usta Dimitar Sergyov. The iconostasis was made by Kojo Vitanov - one of the most famous icon-painters from Tryavna. The original icons are treasured in The Woodcarving and icon-painting museum. ![]() St. George Church - Tryavna Its construction was designed and supervised by master builder Dimitar Sergyov between 1848 and 1850.
